Portland Support Computer Training Class Schedule

While we strive to present classes at times most convenient for our students (evenings and weekends), we are prepared to offer daytime weekday classes if requested. All classes require a minimum of three students in attendance for the training to progress. Our scheduling is based upon the dates and times most students are normally available.

To register for classes, please call 503-206-5499. Students are required to schedule their class with us in advance, as we cannot guarantee an open seat if you simply show up for training without scheduling first. We accept (and prefer) checks at the door when you arrive for training, but you may also pay in advance over the phone using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit cards. If applicable, credit card charge receipts will be delivered to the student at the time of their training.

In the event of inclement weather or other emergencies, every effort will be made to contact students regarding cancelled classes. We will also post a voicemail message regarding such on our main phone line. Cancelled classes will be rescheduled as required.

Internet Child Protection Class
"Kids today know much more about computers than I ever will." This is repeated over and over by parents and peers today, but in fact is incorrect. What kids know well is where and what to click to get from point A to point B, but they rarely understand how they get there. This is the same danger every parent concerns themselves with children - they see and are so dazzled by the prize that they become blinded to the consequences of action. This class is designed for parents and others responsible for maintaining child safety on the internet. We explain both the immediate dangers present to children and how their current activity may effect them in the future. We give students methods for controlling their child's internet access and teach them how to review Internet history to ensure compliance. Let us dispel the idea that your kids are more computer savvy than you. Sign up for this class and we will empower you to protect your children from the dangers of the internet.

Cost:
$135.00 (per student or couple)

Computer Maintenance Class (three hours)

Just like an automobile, all computers require maintenance to ensure they run at peak performance. We'll teach you how computer memory (RAM) works; how hard drives work; and why you should know. We cover the importance of computer security software and how to operate it effectively. This class teaches students how to maintain their computer's top performance.

When: Every Tuesday from 2:00PM to 5:00PM

Say No To Text Book Computer Training!

Pitching the contents of a dry, out of date text book is no way to teach computer fundamentals. Computers, hardware, software, and the plethora of devices that exist today are rooted in a very dynamic world. As we move forward text books simply cannot keep up with technology. The hidden truth about learning computers via text book training is that your average person only requires about 10% - 20% of the total material being offered. Microsoft Word training is a good example. The complexity of this application, including its correlation to other Microsoft Office applications, requires at least 30 hours of training before the student becomes proficient. Our experience shows that average computer users only want to know the basics, and at the very least, a method to learn as they progress.

Portland Support's Training Philosophy

As we've demonstrated over the years we're in this business because we care. We find working with the Portland community to be very personally rewarding, and we're proud to have established Portland Support as a successful business in this town. Our training philosophy is quite simple:

Give someone a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach someone to fish and you feed him for a lifetime

The intent of our training is to empower students with the necessities of computer fundamentals, so they are able to research and find solutions without needing to develop dependencies upon others. This is a necessity in today's computer world because what you learn today may indeed change tomorrow.

We must strive to develop our own systems;
or risk enslavement to someone else's.

Portland Support has been in operation since 2003 and has since serviced over 3000 satisfied customers. We encourage you to read what some of our students have said about our training services, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate tom contact us.

We would like to notify and make a presence in the following communities by specifying our services: Aloha computer training, Beaverton computer training, Clackamas computer training, Happy Valley computer training, Tigard computer training, Tualatin computer training, Hillsboro computer training, King City computer training, Lake Oswego computer training, Oregon computer training, Portland computer training, Milwaukie computer training, Sherwood computer training, and West Linn computer training. Portland Support Student Testimonials

"The staff at Portland Support are computer gurus and excellent teachers. When they repair your computer (in your home) or install a new one, they always teach as they go. And it is quite a lesson! Valuable, clear, concise and always checking for comprehension. Grant and David treat their clients with respect and courtesy, never talking down to them or underestimating their intelligence. They are willing and generous with their time and always fair. I would highly recommend Portland Support to anyone considering computer training!" .......... Sue S. - Portland Oregon

"Portland Support has been providing me computer training on and off for about four years. Always direct and to the point, their assistance is invaluable and very appreciated." .......... Ted S. - Lake Oswego Oregon

"Grant was first introduced to me when he came to our campus to train and assist some members of our Resident Computer Center. At that time I had just been assigned to maintain the employees PC`s, in addition to assisting other residents with computing needs and skills. When I had been asked to sit in on some of the weekly training sessions with Grant, I knew I would be able to benefit from it, but did not realize until later how much of a benefit this was. Grant was very patient and understanding of the sometimes limited skill base some users had, but was always able to convey the concept of the lesson. I personally learned more about PC`s in the 6-8 weekly sessions, than I had from an intensive 2-day “PC Troubleshooting” course offered by one of the national training companies. Grant continues to be an invaluable resource to me and the Resident Computer Center here at Rose Villa Senior living community. Grant has a great training demeanor and makes his students comfortable with the class subject. Thank you Grant, for the skills, patience and friendship you have shown me over the years!" .......... Mark L. - IT Manager Rose Villa Senior Living Community, Milwaukee Oregon

"I'm a sight impaired senior who learned about Portland Support from my neighbors. I feel so fortunate to have found Grant Lansing! He has been teaching me how to use a computer, and at 97 years of age, I feel blessed to have found someone that can speak in terms I not only understand, but look forward to putting in action. Always available to answer my questions, Portland Support is the reason I am able to use a computer!." .......... Helen R. - Portland Oregon

"Grant has been a great asset to our organization and an invaluable coach as I learned to navigate our network. His goal is for you to learn so that you can figure things out for yourself. He always presents information in an accessible and easygoing manner which makes him delightful to work with." .......... Alodie S. - Office Manager Portland Farmers Market

"Grant is very generous in sharing his knowledge of computers and their function. He's all about empowering others to learn, if they want to, about how to run these things! Personable and friendly, Grant and David both have a way of not making you feel stupid about the most BASIC of stuff, like "OK, first of all, is the computer plugged in?" A natural teacher, Grant is fluent in computers and yet is so human - he's the perfect interface to help us be more functional in the world of computers and computing." .......... Marna M. - Portland Oregon

"I cannot thank Portland Support enough for the help and support they have provided me over the past few days. I must have called Dave at least seven or eight times and I'm not sure how many times my daughter called. I was always taken seriously, with a great deal of kindness and patience. How nice it is to know there are still people in the world like Dave and Grant." .......... Marilyn W. - Beaverton Oregon

"We are a senior retirement community in Milwaukie Oregon, and have a computer room for our residents to use. We have 10 computers to manage here, and required some assistance. Grant Lansing of Portland Support came out to review our setup and determined the best way for us to move forward was by way of computer training. For the next year Grant volunteered four hours a month to train our computer room staff and service our hardware. He even donated equipment to further benefit our residents. He continues to assist us whenever we have problems or questions. In this day and age, Grant is a rare find. His gracious, intuitive, and charismatic approach to communication makes for an outstanding presentation. We recommend his training services to anyone seeking to learn about computers. " .......... Carl D. - Milwaukie Oregon

"Portland Support are the guys who know computers and 'digital' from bit to yottabyte. I don't know what a yottabyte is, but should I need to learn there is no other place I would go than to Grant and David!" .......... Bob D. - Bend Oregon

"Grant is a natural born teacher!" .......... Bernice G. - Lake Oswego Oregon
